What are the technical requirements for shrapnel manufacturers to analyze
Leaf springs come in diverse shapes and structures depending on their applications. They can be categorized into straight leaf springs and bent leaf springs by overall profile. In terms of sheet geometry, they are available in rectangular, trapezoidal, triangular and stepped forms.
Radius of bent sections
Most leaf springs require bending operations during forming. A relatively small bending radius will induce high local stress. Therefore, manufacturers recommend that the bending radius should be at least five times the sheet thickness in design to prevent excessive stress at bent zones.
Stress concentration at notches and holes
Leaf springs frequently incorporate stepped sections and cut‑outs. Stress concentration occurs at steps with abrupt dimensional changes. The stress‑concentration factor rises with smaller hole diameters and larger sheet widths.
Geometric shapes and dimensional tolerances
Leaf springs are predominantly manufactured by stamping. Designs should adopt geometries and dimensions suitable for stamping. Dimensional tolerances caused by spring‑back after bending and deformation during heat treatment must also be fully considered.
Heat‑treatment requirements for leaf springs shall be specified according to application performance demands. The hardness after heat treatment typically ranges from 36 HRC to 52 HRC.
